Character Name: Gaia

Character Canon: Final Fantasy XIV + Children of Bahamut

Canon Iteration: CRAU

CRAU Notes: Gaia spent about five months bonded to the soul of a D&Desque Steel Dragon. She has developed some traits and habits that amplify her existing love for writing and give her a more sense adventurous curiosity and urge for wanderlust. ...And possibly a habit of collecting interesting books, stories and art.

Character Age: 17

Character Species: Hume (Human)

Backtagging: As long as it makes sense!

Fourth walling: Not my jam, but ask.

Thread hopping : Sure if everyone's okay with it.

Content warnings and sensitive subjects: Rape, child predation. I can deal with them in context of backstory but these are a hardline no for any ongoing story.

Anything else: Loosely open to conversation about ideas. I'm cool with drama or consequences of IC stuff, but I don't really get into CR that's drama for drama's sake.

★ In Character Permissions ★

Physical affection: Not a PDA or openly feelsy sort of girl but that doesn't mean she wouldn't indulge in a hug when the occasion merits it.

Romance: She sort of has an unspoken maybe-thing developing for Ryne who alas is not present. At the very least the two have a deep and abiding friendship. She's often kept too busy to think about actual romance!

Violence: Possible. If it's going to be extreme, let's chat first.

Injuries : Sure, if it's reasonable for the scene!

Death: Possibly. It should make sense for the CR.

Telepathy and mind-reading: Okay, with OOC consent.

Content warnings and sensitive subjects related to the character: Memory and personal identity issues, target of toxic love and manipulation.

Content warnings and sensitive subjects this character won't be involved in: See: OOC Content Warnings.

name: Gaia

canon: Final Fantasy XIV (CRAU: Children of Bahamut)

age: 17

canon point: Endwalker, 6.5 MSQ, Growing Light - ~5months Children of Bahamut

history: Enjoy This History

Gaia was summoned to Kamurkia and bonded to the dragon soul of the Steel Dragon, Kellen Mahul who was once the world's equivalent of a famous travel blogger. Once Gaia realized there really wasn't a way back any time soon and she was 'stuck' with this whole process of 'changing into some famous dragon bonded hero thing', she did focus her attention on practical things. Finding a home, doing her best to avoid the ire and antics of the local Fae and getting ready to deal with the unpleasant side of the transformation.

While she has been known not to be the greatest at expressing herself in a friendly and engaging manner, she even became close with the younger edition of Sephiroth that appeared as well as a young adventurer named Popp. Well you know, friends, even if that word wasn't really used. After a sort. She had begun picking up life skills during her time in the Crystarium back home, but more had to be learned as she became much more reliant on herself and dealt with the relatively harsher conditions of life on Kamurkia (a medieval D&Desque fantasy world recovering from the end of a calamity).

Exploration was limited as some mysterious force was keeping them from going too far into the world without consequence and the transformations to a draconic being were often uncomfortable if not painful. As winter came, the younger Sephiroth disappeared during a snowstorm; later to be confirmed to have been taken elsewhere, perhaps 'home'.

Being a practical young woman, she knew there wasn't much she could do at the time, though she reached out to the local god for as much information as he could manage to find out and started making plans of what to do once there was more of the world to explore and the changes wound to their conclusion. In the midst of this preparation and waiting, she was also summoned away from Kamurkia... but it wasn't back to home.

abilities: Titled the Oracle of Darkness, Gaia is in tune with FFXIV's interpretation of the 'Darkness' element; essentially a pole of balance opposite 'Light' that the other six elements can be weighted toward and embodying 'activity, growth and transformation' states. It is neither good nor evil. She is particularly sensitive to the presence of the element and may be recognized as heavily attuned to 'Darkness' (however that is interpreted by other individuals). She is immune or at least heavily warded against elemental 'tempering' due to her alignment with Darkness and ascian nature. Gaia is also the reincarnation of the Ascian Lohgrif and through the events she experienced retains access to a great deal of ascian powers including teleportation, magic, the ability to harness creation magic (though on a smaller scale than the Unsundered or Ancients of her canon's far past) and transformation.

Gaia's fighting style is a combination of sorcery and phyiscal attacks with the hammer, Hyposkhesphyra. Magic leanings are toward a dark-infused fire, teleportation, time spells, dual casting, lacerating energy or petrification. She largely relies on almost instinctive memory and skills for fighting and has only limited experience at this point in refining her techniques for practical combat; largely relying on overwhelming her opponents or the element of surprise. No one expects the dainty goth girl conjuring a massive hammer, right?

Other relevant practical skills she's learned during her time in Kamurkia are hunting, trapping and fishing, how to skin and butcher, some facts and setup about gardening (mostly in theory, it was going on winter when she arrived), and improving sewing and cooking skills. She's also had a lot of practice in writing prose and books.

Any dragony related powers from CoB will disappear on Etraya.

personality: Gaia's overall demeanor, a bit of vanity in her fashion and appearance and a bit of aloof vibe can be attributed to the affluent lifestyle she grew up in as a citizen of Eulmore; something that persists where most other memories of her past don't. While this sometimes did suggest she was snobbish and DID make her focus on self-centered goals, it was slowly revealed that she wasn't as uncaring as she seemed to be and that some of it was a defense against all the mysteries surrounding her life at the time. Gaia shows that, despite her upbringing, she's fully willing to work toward the goal of learning the skills and knowledge needed for her new lifestyle, acknowledging that she can't rely on money or other people to care for her (in the sense of how Eulmore citizens conducted themselves). She's not afraid to speak what's on her mind, though at least it's generally not malicious in nature; more like she lacks a strong filter. And she can be very prickly, particularly toward people she doesn't know or new social situations and especially when she's in an unknown situation and under stress.

Overall, teenage girl willingly learning how to live a more humble life than she was used to. May exhibit signs of rampant tsundere behavior. Rich Girl Vibe. Totally keeps a diary. Will not eat coffee biscuits with just anyone, you know.

As her time on Kamurkia grew longer, she began to absorb traits of the dragon that inhabited her soul. Many were simply amplifying interests she already had; in stories and recording her daily experiences. But Gaia has also picked up a bit of wanderlust; at least the urge to explore new experiences and places since traveling Kamurkia was limited by circumstances during her time there. She's also gained a strong curiosity in cultures, foods and the arts that hasn't been completely realized, causing her to become more engaging and open than she normally might expected to be by those who knew her on the First. And if she collects a lot of interesting cultural doodads and squirrels them away in her living space, who's to judge her?

Name: Kellen Mahul
Type: Steel
Personal Information: Spending most of their time in human form, Kellen was a well-traveled writer, focusing themselves on the lives of everyday people that they met. They enjoyed recording the stories of those who's lives would otherwise pass in obscurity and lifting them up to the eyes of the world. Highly regarded both amongst dragon and man, Kellen did not enjoy the spotlight, but was gracious enough to engage their fans in an affable, relaxed manner. Their ideal day is people watching with a pint at the tavern.

The House! [Location: Feed]

Gaia set out to find a place after arriving in the bitter months of winter. The she had what she believed was a practical plan in mind; find a house that is sturdy and made of stone but not too much in ruins. Clean it up and fix it to make it liveable.

But Gaia also has sensibilities and not a solid grasp on what sort of undertaking that is. This meant Crenshaw was too cramped, a lot of places were too 'gross' (Lumenwood) or smelled terrible (Darcmouth). And while Cellar Door was 'fancy', it was definitely a bit too much old Eulmore for the woman she wanted to become. Also kind of shady.

So she decided a countryside place would be pleasant. Feed was closer than Ache (also the cold was really making her rush). But she found a place with sturdy stone walls. Very rectangular but importantly sturdy and what looked like a good solid fireplace then started to hunker down.

She learned that farmlife animals are really gross when butchered. Also discovered that sturdy stone walls did not mean insulation or sturdy stone roofs. And a good fireplace was not 'unblocked chimney'. With a mix of help from her Omen keeping her alive, nearby Trenchies to barter with and possibly Lahabrea (posing as Thancred)[?? tb discussed with Rune!, probably did a lot of asking for advice here though.] she managed to barter to get the chimney unblocked and the kitchen hearth set up. With a canvas tent, lots of blankets and a random variety of cooking untensils she's scrounged (from December's ships or later trading with people for the things she actually needed) she has been managing to stay warm.

The roof still leaks a bit but is best in the kitchen area. There is a canvas tent that could probably snugly fit four people (very snugly) or three people with some room. This is set up in a haphazard but at least stable and sturdy way near what is obviously a multifunction hearth. Gaia is a bit proud of herself for cleaning up the kitchen area she 'lives' in now. Most of the decorating is also her work but it's... well not much. Things like an old metal pot with a hole in it being used to keep firewood at ready or stringing up dried herbs for 'decoration' or setting out the over-abundant set of tools she somehow collected to make it look more homey. A huge part of the house has been boarded up (windows, doors, etc) or shored with something temporary until spring comes and it'll be easier and less dangerous. Gaia is currently (as of beginning of Feb) whether she will stay here but she's determined to make it work until Spring and the easier weather.

Well she hopes it'll be easier weather. Gods only know it probably rains frogs or blood or something. Anyway because of this she hasn't set down a Lamp Friend (she currently walks the distance from the nearest beacon to her home). But with the right direction and new companionship she can certainly be convinced to give this all another go
and work at fixing this place rather than going to find another.

The aesthetic is currently simple. Rectangular german colonial house from the 1600s era in appearance. Leaky, broken roof. Lots of areas boarded up rooms/sections that make it look like it will be a seriously good idea to gut the thing out to the stone walls and refurbish. This was definitely not a project for one person, much less someone clueless about a lot of basic livelihood skills. Expect animal corpses and other creepy things lurking under trash for the unsuspecting. They're probably not undead.

There is pastureland as part of the property (it is Feed after all!) but it's in danger of being lost to overgrowth and there's weird shapes and mounds out in the furthest areas that worry Gaia. She and her Omen keep an eye on them but doesn't approach. As long as they don't move closer she's fine with leaving matters lie until she can figure a way to heck them out. Maybe it's paranoia but she sometimes feels she sees some of those snow-covered mounds breathe. (She seriously needs companionship. But she could also be correct.).

There was probably a barn somewhere but given the state of the house it's probably going to be unsurprising that it was either salvaged by the locals or fell apart and is lost in the overgrowth. Why the excellent supply of stone of the house itself hasn't been salvaged is a good question! Maybe Gaia was lucky on the timing. Maybe not. People have been willing to help her shore up things and fix the chimney after all.

As far as filling in the blanks I welcome ideas and thoughts! The only real 'static' things I've put into IC are the state of the kitchen and the general overview of the house itself. Consider the pictures above mostly the aesthetic rather. Well except maybe the hearth and the house outside itself.

⇓in character⇓

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: This is fine. Gaia might not BE fine with it depending on who you are.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Yes, though we should talk OOC if things look like they're heading that way, especially from the start.

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: Maybe on romance, yes on flirting. Keep in mind Gaia has a deep and abiding fated-souls type love out there. This wouldn't stop her from having interests in this lifetime but there will not be another like it.

SEXUAL CONTENT: No. Gaia is underage. If any sex happens, it must be completely offscreen and implied (and will never be with someone much younger or older than her.

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: I prefer OOC consent and communication. But while Gaia is resistant to mental influences she's not immune.

MAGIC/POWERS: Gaia has a lot of hidden (but largely untapped) potential for sorcery beyond the currently dominating blood magic gifts. She's got good instincts and can learn quickly but otherwise she's potentially open to magic influences. OOC communication about such plots is best!

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Seems the picture perfect health of a young lady in her mid-teens. There shouldn't be anything particularly wrong with her and she'd seem human from a medical standpoint.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: Pedophilia. From a backstory standpoint it's fine to say 'yes that happened' but laboring on about it in detail should be avoided.

⇓out of character⇓

BACKTAGGING: I'm good with backtagging! If it's really old might want to ask first before starting.

FOURTH WALLING: Minimalist 4th-Walling is fine!

THREADHOPPING: Sure, as long as participants are okay with it!

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR, BUT CAN STILL PLAY: Rape (discussion).

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR AND THAT I CAN'T PLAY: Pedophilia, Rape (action)

ANYTHING ELSE: I like RP that flows reasonably with IC. I also love communication and balance. So just because RP might 'naturally' flow in a way neither participants want it to go, I'm happy to open communication to come up with ideas on how reasonable IC can lead to something fun and interesting for everyone.

Character Base

• Character Name: Gaia
• Age: Mid-teens (About 16)
• Canon (Date/Year Released)/Canon Point: Final Fantasy XIV (Shadowbringers Patch 5.4 Dec 2020) Post Eden's Gate Epilogue. Spoilers for Shadowbringers content up through the end of the expansion.

• Items Coming Along: Gaia will have four things appearing with her:

1. Gaia's Hammer: A large hammer that seems too heavy and large for someone of her frame but she wields with ease. Like all FFXIV weapons, it can be used in battle against magic and machines. Of course it will still need blood enhancement for the Beasts and other related needs of Deer Country.

2. Cosmetics Kit: An extensive and well stocked cosmetics kit which Gaia will be relieved to see somehow washed up. While it'll still be a finite supply, at least she doesn't have to go deal with eldritch horror without her makeup from the start. Especially when this palette is so on point!

3. Hair Care: Namely a nice brush and a few bits and pieces of stuff that help maintain her hair.

4. Ice Crystal Necklace: A sliver of ice a little over two inches long. It never melts and glows brightly as if from a light within. The necklace (really a simple leather thong) was given to her by Ryne, made from a shard of eternal ice Gaia had freed her from when she lost control of the summoning of Shiva. It is very precious to Gaia despite calling it 'not her style' and symbolizes her friendship with Ryne.

Content Warnings for Character: Body horror, death, obsession, kidnapping, brainwashing (through memory alteration), isolation, manipulation, gods, sacrifice, traumatic history.

Character Background

• History: All information as of December 2021 is relevant. Gaia is drawn from the aftermath of the events of Eden's Promise, part of the Eden's Gate raid.

• Core Relationships:

Ryne - Gaia cherishes her relationship with Ryne. Theirs is a bond of friendship that has genuinely grown from the ground up. It is Ryne's persistence to reach out to the prickly Eulmoran that wanted nothing to do with 'making friends' or 'becoming close' in the beginning. They are both the victims of kidnapping and imprisonment, of a destiny they didn't ask for. Both have saved one another; Gaia who charged in to save Ryne from an eternal prison of Light and Ice, Ryne who came for Gaia in the darkness to lead her back home.

Both girls are fast friends and while they are near opposites in temperament and preferences, they often find or go out of their way to find middle ground they can both enjoy.

Mitron - Her relationship here is... complicated. Mitron is, to the current Gaia, the one who kidnapped her away from Eulmore, stole her memories and sought to wrest away her dear friends and companions in his singular goal to restore her to who she once was and have her by his side once again. But he was also a voice in the dark, something familiar. Even when she had her suspicions about his intentions, his voice as the 'fairy' who whispered to her was remembered as comforting.

To Gaia of the past and likely eternally into the future, Mitron is her eternal love; a soul so indelibly twinned to hers that even the Unsundered ascians who saw the fragments of their brethren as 'replaceable' by another echo would not raise one without the other. Their love might not be realized in this lifetime and for good reason. Mitron had suffered a century both mentally and physically to the point where he'd been blinded as to what his actions were doing to her. He needed to rest and heal and one day they would be together again. Yet in the moments they last had to speak to one another before he faded, there was no doubt that even this trial had not severed their bond. Gaia may not fully recognize who Mitron is to her. But within her soul there is the knowledge of what real love is. What it's like and that hope to be reunited one day again is a foundation any hardship will be unlikely to break.

Warrior of Light (Darkness) - While not as strongly connected as Gaia is to Ryne, the Warrior of Light left an impression, just as they do whereever they go. The Warrior Gaia knows is one that brought night back to Novrandt, who was friend and travelling companion to Ryne, Thancred and Urianger. A strong figure who stood at the forefront and faced challenges unflinchingly and for the sake of others- not least Gaia herself. Like the others, the Warrior had accepted Gaia for who she was, who she wanted to be and for that she is grateful.

Misc Others - While Gaia's memories had been in disarray even before she was reborn in Deer Country, there are still many people that impacted her life on a lesser scale. Urianger and Thancred who travelled with Ryne and the Warrior of Light were examples of admirable people who worked to better the lives of others. In addition the people of the Crystarium who helped support the mission to research and restore the Empty. They aided Gaia, sought to find out her forgotten past and provided support. This left an impression on the young woman and was part of the reason she decided to dedicate her future to helping others.

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences:

Meeting Ryne - Ryne and her companions rescued Gaia from the grasp of creatures known as voidsent. Although in her addled state she had attacked them, the group accepted the young woman as more of a victim than suspect from the first. Their patience but most particularly Ryne's outgoing nature and sincerity eventually pierced the shell Gaia place around herself and she opened up. Having seen the impact of people really dedicated to doing the right thing or doing something for the benefit of many has also left its impression on the young woman.

Mitron (Artemis) - For the current Gaia, Mitron is both a good and bad experience. In the end, he recognizes what he had been doing and frees Gaia. She is afforded a glimpse of that man, the one who loves her more than anything else (and the one she feels she loves in the same way... perhaps not meant in this life, but before and in the future). She has seen his bad side but also the good of what such lasting love and devotion can be, when it is not tainted by the horrors of torment and tragedy. In this she learns that sometimes, Bad Things Happen and the road becomes.... twisted. And that, while Mitron's actions were not right in any shape or form, he too had been a victim.

(2+) Negative Experiences:

Kidnapping and Mitron (Obsession) - The memories of Gaia, the girl born in Eulmore, are fleeting. This is largely due to her kidnapping by Mitron and his influence as a voice she knew as 'the fairy'. His aim was to help her remember her life as Lohgrif so they can be together once again, but a century of pain and mental torment trapped in Eden had blinded him to the impact of his actions on her. Thus, Gaia has witnessed what love can become under such pain and the danger inherent in not tempering one's selfish wants with the desires of another and that even in the truest of bonds, such things can happen. It's.... frightening. The kidnapping, having her memories erased or hidden and being misled has also given her a tendency to be slow to open up to others.

Eulmore Upbringing - For better or worse, Gaia was raised in Eulmore as a citizen. Which means a background of rich entitlement. Still strongly part of her personality, she is used to servants, fashion, trendy things, being able to just 'buy' something without a lot of stress over its expense and having a nice place to rest. This makes her a bit of a snob, though at least she recognizes and tries to work at adjusting to her new, less glamourous surroundings.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers: While Gaia has limited abilities and command of the Darkness Element, this stems from her true identity as the reincarnation of the Ascian Lohgrif. She has the abilities of an ascian (namely teleporting, sorcery, creation) but she only knows she has this potential and had yet to figure out how to do more than a couple of things. She has managed a short teleportation and can wield an oversized hammer with instinctive skill. Over time she'll be able to cast some low impact elemental spells (Fire and Blizzard).

Her ascian powers will be dwarfed by or compliment her blood powers in time the scales of this balance may shift in the opposite direction depending on how events unfold.

• Blood Type: Darkblood
• Omen: Gaia's omen appears as a crowntail betta.

• Blessed Day: May 20 - An important day for Gaia, as it marks the day she decided not to remain changed to the past and what she might have had. Instead she chose to move forward to the future and life she chose for herself while helping others and offering hope.

• Patron Pthumerian: Bausphomette - Gaia doesn't have any strong desire to worship anyone. Finding she has a Patron Pthumerian won't change much in her outlook on life; she comes from a place where gods and godlike beings are both commonplace and fought against depending on their nature and she's never been very religious. Learning about Bausphomette's principles would garner a great deal of respect from Gaia. She can appreciate the fundamental message of 'Be Thyself'. Any boon she received would be with respectful appreciation. She might not BE religious but she's also not stupid.

• Blood Power Manifestation: In the beginning, Gaia's blood manifestation will be stronger than her canon powers. While she'll have a bout of learning to do, Darkblood has some similarities to what ascians can do and that knowledge runs soul-deep. She'll be able to swiftly adapt what she learns to tactics and has a good sense of focus; one shouldn't get distracted when trying to warp reality after all. Bad things go down.

Gaia will have all the standard Universal Perks and be strongest in time and gravity magic. She will have moderate control over reality shaping.

Time: In the beginning, Gaia's blood magic will manifest its time altering properties by delaying or speeding effects. Rather than casting a spell that hastens one's physical ability, she would instead seek to freeze a localized moment in time, rain a bunch of blows down and then release it for the full impact to strike all at once. For spells, this could be like setting a 'time-bomb', making it less certain when a following spell's effect is going to go off. This may even make it difficult for people wanting to counter, as there would be two spells to unravel. Likewise she might try to delay a timer or the full impact of an explosion, giving her side more time to reach safety or dodge.

Gravity: This will largely focus on its application to objects (moving them around, making them lighter/heavier/etc). Gravity magic isn't a foreign concept to those in Gaia's world so over time she'll pick up how to apply it to cause the gravity to compress (or reverse) in a small area for implosive effects or flight and levitation.

Reality: Even if she wanted to, Gaia won't be outright reshaping laws any time soon. The impact of reality warping will be transformations and alterations. She could turn someone into a frog but why would she? Further development of this particular part beyond 'repairing a leaky roof' or 'changing the shape and color of clothes' will depend on teachers. Ultimately using blood magic to warp reality will seem the wrong or incorrect on a fundamental level.
